Ufemat and GS1 have joined forces to prepare the construction sector for upcoming European legislation surrounding the Digital Product Passport (DPP).

This digital passport provides standardized, reliable information about a product's origin, materials, production, and sustainability—supporting the EU Green Deal, Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), and the circular economy.

Key highlights:

  • Transparency and traceability: The DPP enables consistent digital communication throughout a product’s entire lifecycle—from manufacturer to end-user.

  • Regulatory compliance: The DPP will be required for many construction products. It must remain available throughout the product's lifetime and be uniquely linked to it.

  • GS1 as a standard enabler: GS1 provides essential tools like the Global Trade Item Number (GTIN), barcodes, RFID, and QR codes powered by GS1 Digital Link.

  • Benefits for the industry: Improved data integration, operational efficiency, product safety, traceability, customer trust, and legal compliance.

  • Practical on-site applications: From tagging materials and tools to real-time access to product specs, installation guides, maintenance logs, safety instructions, and digital documentation.
